Lawsuits allege that GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and similar drugs can cause severe gastrointestinal injuries — including stomach paralysis — and vision loss, without adequate warning.
GLP-1 receptor agonists — including Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, Mounjaro, and Trulicity — are prescribed for type 2 diabetes and weight management. Their use has grown dramatically in recent years.
Patients have reported severe gastrointestinal problems, including gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), persistent vomiting, and bowel obstruction. A body of litigation has formed alleging that manufacturers failed to adequately warn about the severity and persistence of these side effects.
More recently, lawsuits have also alleged a link between semaglutide drugs and NAION — a form of sudden vision loss. Federal cases have been consolidated for coordinated pretrial proceedings in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Federal lawsuits have been consolidated into an MDL in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The litigation is active and expanding — no settlement has been announced.
